Thank you for taking time to visit my website. I am a psychotherapist with over 30 years of experience with individuals, groups, couples, and families. In my work, I've helped adults of various ages, races, religious beliefs (or none), and sexual orientations work through a variety of issues—young adults addressing personal identity and development issues, men and women struggling with alcohol use and effects of pornography, couples dealing with relationship challenges, and many every-day people struggling with depression and anxiety (including phobias and obsessive-compulsive behaviors). In these and other situations, it's been my privilege to help people grow and flourish in the midst of life’s pain and messiness.

 

I have a Ph.D. in Clinical Psychology from Purdue University and a Master’s degree in Social Work from Michigan State University. I'm fully licensed as a Psychologist in the state of Michigan and am a member of the American Psychological Association. I have extensive experience working in college/university counseling centers and was employed as the Director of the Counseling Center at Calvin College. I completed my Ph.D. internship at Salem Veterans Administration Medical Center, and before that provided inpatient therapy at Pine Rest Christian Mental Health Services. 

 

In addition to my clinical work, I love teaching. I've taught courses in Psychology, Social Work, Family Therapy and Mental Health and Wellness at Calvin College, Radford University, Hollins University, Purdue University, and Michigan State University, College of Human Medicine. I've presented at churches, conferences, and workshops, both locally and across the United States.

 

More personally, I'm married and enjoy spending time with family and friends, whether traveling, hiking, or enjoying the arts. I'm a native of Michigan and have lived and worked in locations all over the country. I love to read and to spend time outdoors.
